Ordering & timing
How long does it take?
Six to twelve weeks from choosing your timber to it being in your house, depending on the size and complexity of the piece. We'll give you a firmer date once we've ordered the timber, and we'll tell you straight away if anything changes.
Can I get it faster?
Sometimes. We occasionally have a piece already built or part-way there, so it's worth asking. If you're working to a move-in date, tell us the date first and we'll say honestly whether we can hit it.
How do I order?
Send us a message or fill in the enquiry form with the space you're working with and roughly when you need it. We'll talk it through, then send an invoice with a payment link once we've agreed on the piece.
Do you take a deposit?
Half upfront, which covers the timber and gets you a place in the build queue. The other half is due once it's finished, before it leaves our workshop.
Sizes & customisation
Can you make it to my exact size?
Yes. That's most of what we do. The lengths on the site are the ones people ask for most, not a hard limit.
Do you charge extra for a custom size?
No premium for a length between our standard sizes. Something genuinely different in shape or construction we'd quote separately.
What else do you make?
We take commissions for pretty much anything, including bespoke dining tables, TV units, bedside tables, storage benches, lounge chairs and more. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll give you a figure.
Timber & materials
What timbers can I choose from?
Blackwood and Tasmanian Oak are our standard options. Black-stained Oak is a finished version of the Tasmanian Oak. American Oak and Walnut are the premium choices. You can see them all on our materials page.
Is the timber Australian?
Blackwood, Tasmanian Oak and black-stained Oak are Australian. American Oak and Walnut are imported hardwoods we offer as an upgrade. Everything is made here in Wollongong, whichever timber you pick.
How do I know which timber will suit my house?
Send us a photo of your floor or cabinetry in daylight and we'll tell you which one we'd go with. We'd rather give you a straight recommendation than leave you comparing five swatches on a screen.
What's Danish paper cord?
Twisted paper fibre, used on Danish furniture since the 1940s. It's stronger than it sounds, comfortable without cushions, and develops a lovely patina. We weave our Danish paper cord seats by hand.
How is the timber finished?
Hand-rubbed Osmo hardwax oil. It protects the timber, brings out the grain, and unlike a lacquer, can be topped up in place rather than stripped back.
Will I need to re-oil it?
Eventually, and you'll know by looking. The timber starts to seem a bit dry. You can do it yourself with the same Osmo hardwax oil we use. Rub on a thin coat with a cloth, and thin really is the trick. Or send it back to us and we'll re-oil it for you. We'll quote you depending on the piece.
Living with it
Will the cord hold up to family use?
Yes. It's been used on dining chairs for eighty years. It ages gracefully rather than wears out, and if something ever does happen to it, we can re-weave it (at a cost).
How do I clean it?
Vacuum with a soft brush, blot spills straight away, and skip the sprays. Full details are on our care page.
What if something breaks?
Get in touch. Cord can be re-woven and timber can be repaired. That's the point of buying from the person who made it. Structural faults are covered under Australian Consumer Law, and if a piece arrives damaged, let us know within 48 hours and we'll sort it. For anything outside that, send us a photo and we'll quote you on the repair.
Can I return it if I change my mind?
Because every piece is built to order for your space, we can't take it back for a change of mind. That's also why we'd rather spend time on the measurements with you upfront than have you guess. Send us a photo and we'll check it before anything gets cut.
Getting it to you
Do you deliver?
Wherever we can drive to, we bring it ourselves. Viktor and Evelina, to your front door. If you're too far for that, we'll help find you a courier. Pickup from the workshop in Wollongong is free and very welcome.
How much is delivery?
It depends on where you are and what we're delivering. We'll work out the best option and let you know the cost upfront, before you order.
Can I see one before I buy?
Come to the workshop. People drive down from Sydney regularly. You can sit on a piece, look at the timbers in daylight, and see what's on the bench. Just message us to arrange a time.
